inventory & visual rhetorical elements

Inventory: There is dark navy background color. The navy color fades into a light blue color that is behind only the tiger. The floor is black except for a lighter gray circle underneath the tiger. It looks like a spot light. There is a tiger in the center of the picture with thin, white puppet strings (tied to all four of the paws). The puppet strings are attached to a beige colored piece of wood. There is a small black shadow on the center of the wood. There are tiny letters spelling out “support animal-free circuses.” It is in a tiny font centered underneath the tiger’s paw. It is white font and has 3 white stars on each side of the sentence. Centered on the tiger’s stomach is the words “the show musn’t go on.” It is a white, and the font looks professional. It appears to be maybe times new roman. Underneath the “support animal-free circuses” text there is a yellow diamond with an animal in it (looks like their logo). Underneath that diamond is there website written in the same color, font, and size as the text above the yellow diamond. The tiger is standing in a way like he is being controlled as a puppet. The tiger looks in distress. The tiger’s left leg is in the air. The left paw is dangling (looks limp) and pointing downwards while the right paw is pointing straight up in the air. The right leg is slightly bent, trying to balance. The tiger’s ears appear to be sitting back/down a bit. Rhetorical elements- color: dark blue color resembles gloominess, sadness, coldness. The bright blue behind the tiger makes the tiger, the main subject of the photo, pop out. The orange fur of tiger makes the tiger stand out even more compared to the overall dark background. The white color of the strings stand out on the dark background so that it is easy for the viewer to tell that they are actually puppet strings. Text: all of the text is white so that it is easy to read on the almost black background. All of the fonts appear to be times new roman which is more of a professional, serious/sophisticated text which is fitting for an ad that is on the more serious side. All of the fonts being the same makes it look more professional. The phrase on the tiger’s stomach is the biggest because it is the main point of the whole that they are trying to make (needs to be in the center and larger so that it catches the reader’s eye). Framing: there is sort of a navy blue/dark color that surrounds the outside of the photo and tiger- appears to be a frame. The inside of the photo around only the subject is light blue. This framing allows the viewers eyes to focus in the focal point of the ad, which is the orange tiger. Focal point: the large, orange tiger. The animal is centered. Contrast: bright/light color of tiger, dark color for background. Dark background, white text and white puppet strings. Makes everything stand out and catch the reader’s attention. Arrangement: the tiger, puppet strings, text, and block of wood are all centered. There is nothing on the outside/corners of the image. All of the items go up and down in a row. Our eyes will look top to bottom starting with the wood, the strings, the tiger, and ending with their phrase, logo, and website. The phrase, logo, and website are at the bottom so it is hopefully the last thing we see so we have it fresh in our mind to visit that page, who the author is, and what they are arguing. Sightlines: the puppet strings go down from the block of wood, focusing our attention on the tiger, the phrase, and the website/logo. It directs our attention to the important things in the picture. Perspective: the tiger looks 3D and life like because of its shadow on the floor and the way it is positioned. There is a shadow on the wood which helps that look 3D as well.
